An Inventory Management Case Study

Background

Several years ago, a major office furniture manufacturer came to SEEMAC, needing cut-to-size particleboard.  This company manufactures different types of office furniture, including some that has high-pressure laminate on top.  For that, they required raw board cut to specific sizes, so we supplied that and continue to carry a large inventory of this product and deliver JIT to their plants.

With several plant locations nationwide, this company has varied product needs and requires specialty services on many of their lines. Our business with them has continued to grow, as SEEMAC has proven time and again that our select vendors can accomplish their specialty needs, and our virtual warehousing model can deliver the products they need, when they need them at a very competitive price.

Solution

Through the years, this company has repeatedly turned to SEEMAC for additional products and value-added services.  SEEMAC has been called upon to not only supply such value-added services as cut-to-size particleboard, conference table bases, wrapped moulding for bookcases, raw and melamine laminated particleboard sheet stock, MDF sheet stock, powder coated MDF machined parts, and plywood drawer sides, we have also warehoused all this inventory, delivering to multiple locations several times daily to supply what the customer needs, when they need it at a very competitive price.

Because this company has several plants, they rely on SEEMAC to supply raw materials as well as value-added services to each plant on a regular basis.  Using our Virtual Warehousing model, we purchase and store inventory nearby their major locations or on-site on a consignment basis.  Either way, the customer is assured the products they need JIT, often with deliveries several times each day.

This customer relies on SEEMAC for a wide range of products and services.  We are continually growing our business with them because they know they can count on SEEMAC’s worldwide supplier base and strong network of value-added vendors, including painters, laminators, cut-to-size, manufacturers of drawer sides, conference table bases, occasional tables, and more.  We purchase the raw materials and find the right vendor to complete the specialty work needed to exact manufacturer specifications.
